The Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival invites conference attendees to a screening of The Librarians in the Crystal Ballroom at the Arlington Hotel!
Film description: As calls for book bans sweep across the United States, more than 850 titles — most centered on race, inclusivity, and LGBTQIA+ stories — are suddenly under fire. Nowhere is the battle more heated than in Texas and Florida, where librarians stand at the frontlines. Fiercely defending the First Amendment, they resist mounting pressures to erase diverse voices from shelves, even as organized efforts push censorship nationwide. Urgent and eye-opening, this documentary lays bare what is at stake: not just access to books, but the health of our democracy. It’s both a warning and a tribute to everyday heroes of free expression.

The film will be followed by a Q&A with stars of the film Suzette Baker, the courageous former director of the Kingsland Public Library in Llano County, Texas, and Courtney Gore, the Board President of the Granbury Independent School District, who has brought positive national attention to GISD by standing up against anti-public school entities.
